Detroit Lions 17

San Diego Chargers 30

SAN DIEGO - The improbable run continues for the San Diego Chargers (8-1) as they roared back from a 17-3 halftime deficit to defeat the Detroit Lions 30-17 at Jack Murphy Stadium.

A sack-fumble by rookie Calijah Kancey sparked life into a dormant Chargers attack leading to the first San Diego touchdown late in the 3rd quarter.

"We seem to be a second half team right now," Kancey said. "As long as we can keep it close, I know the offense can kick it into gear late."

HB Jonathan Taylor continued his strong season with another 100+ yard performance with a TD as well.

Safety Andre Cisco slammed the door late in the red zone with a diving INT with the Chargers up 10.

The Chargers now begin a brutal 2-game stretch against the NFC North leading Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field before hosting the AFC North leading Baltimore Ravens at home. 

Cleveland Browns 22

Baltimore Ravens 24

Baltimore - The Baltimore Ravens hung on in dramatic fashion to beat the Cleveland Browns 24- 22. The Ravens were carrying a 21-3 lead late in the 2nd quarter and did just enough with a 3rd quarter field goal to emerge with the victory.

Bijan Robinson and Mark Andrews each had over 100 yards on the day and are showing the league that they may be the best one-two punch out there.

Baltimore has a quick turnaround and plays division rival Cincinnati on Thursday night.

Houston Texans 31

Cincinnati Bengals 45

CINCINNATI - Four turnovers by Trey Lance doomed the Texans in their game against the Cincinnati Bengals as they lost 45-31 Sunday afternoon. The electric Bengal, offense, which has given teams fits across the league this season, proved too much for Houston with the turnovers, and the Texans were chasing points all game.

The one bright spot for Houston was Deebo Samuel, who returned from injury and had 250 yards receiving on six catches and two touchdowns in the game.

Houston will look to regroup against a struggling Arizona team next week.

Green Bay Packers 34

Pittsburgh Steelers 16

PITTSBURGH - The Green Bay Packers used patience and a heavy dose of Amon-Ra Saint Brown to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 34-16.  The Packers had to take what the Steelers defense gave them all afternoon and this one was close through most of the game.

The turning point, however, was in the second quarter when Kenny Pickett threw a pick six to Chidobe Awuzie and Green Bay took the lead for good.

St. Brown had 143 yards on six catches and two touchdowns, including a 75 yarder in the fourth quarter to put the game away for good.

Green Bay now heads home to take on old rival EP and the San Diego Chargers. Packers GM SD and EP have quite the history of exciting games when their two teams meet, especially when they were in Buffalo and Miami (respectively).  We’ll see if this one gets added the the annals of 3GML lore.

San Francisco 49ers 32

JACKSONVILLE - The San Francisco 49ers moved to 8-1 on the season will a 32-16 win over Jacksonville on the road.  Backup quarterback Jordan Love looked like anything but a backup with 312 yards and three touchdowns on the day.  Love bounced back and forth between CeeDee Lamb and Tyler Boyd all afternoon, keeping the 49er offense on the field the majority of the game.

Defensively Drue Tranquill and Marcus Williams each had an interception on the day.

San Francisco now heads home to take on another team from Florida in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

2023 3GML Season - Week #9

Green Bay Packers 27

GREEN BAY - The Packers hung on for their 4th win in a row 27-24 over the visiting Rams.  Los Angeles made it interesting late as they had the ball with a chance to tie or win but couldn't get another snap off once in field goal range.

The star of the game for Green Bay was Isiah Pacheco who amassed 152 total yards on the afternoon.

"Just happy to get the W today," Pacheco said.

Green Bay will hit the road to take on the last place Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14

Houston Texans 17

HOUSTON - The highly touted Super Bowl rematch between the Texans and Buccaneers hardly lived up to expectations with Houston winning ugly in overtime 17-14.  The game featured stagnate offenses who struggled all day.  In fact, the 22 total punts was easily the most in a game this season so far.

"A win's a win," said Jaelen Phillips who had two sacks on the day.  "It's ugly until it goes in the win column, then they all look the same."

Houston will have to smooth out the offense next week as they take on the NFLs top team, the Cincinnati Bengals.

Seattle Seahawks 3

Baltimore Ravens 33

BALTIMORE - After starting the season 0-2, the Baltimore Ravens (7-2) picked up their seventh consecutive victory in emphatic fashion with a 33-3 demolition over the Seattle Seahawks.

Led by MVP candidate Jalen Hurts and Rookie of the Year frontrunner Bijan Robinson, the Ravens offense moved the ball at will throughout the contest.

"The job is never done," Hurts said. "That was a good football team we played against today, but it just went our way."

Baltimore is now heading into a crucial stretch where they are set to face three consecutive AFC playoff contenders in a row, starting with the Cleveland Browns.

EAST RUTHERFORD - Trailing 21-3 midway through the second quarter, the San Diego Chargers (7-1) looked like a team destined to finally crash back to earth after their hot start to the 2023 season. But the team did not blink and were able to turn the tables on CJ Stroud and the New York Jets with a dramatic 34-28 win.

Rookie Nolan Smith picked up another two sacks on the day while fellow rookie Hendon Hooker steadied himself after a rocky start to propel the team to the victory.

"I took too many sacks early," Hooker said. "We knew the defense would keep us in it, so we had time to turn it around."

The Chargers now look to be a team with real playoff aspirations despite their relatively low profile roster - they will look to keep their momentum going at home against the Detroit Lions next week. 

Dallas Cowboys 27

Philadelphia Eagles 31

PHILADELPHIA - AJ Brown caught the game winning touchdown from Will Levis with under a minute left to boost the Eagles to a 31-27 win over the Dallas Cowboys.  Brown, who also had 105 yards receiving, was the main target for the rookie Levis on the day.

"Starting to really make a connection with Will," Brown said.  "Dude's got a cannon."

With the win the Eagles move to 6-3 and a game out of first behind the New York Giants, who just lost Daniel Jones for the season to an ACL injury.  The teams play twice in three weeks to end the season.

Philadelphia heads into it's bye week riding some momentum, but will have their biggest test of the season with the Kansas City Chiefs waiting for them week 11.

2023 3GML Season - Week #8

SAN DIEGO - A week filled with disappointment, unconventional decision-making, and a rookie QBs starting debut, the San Diego Chargers (6-1) bounced back against all odds with a resounding 31-10 victory over the Chicago Bears. 

Rookie QB Hendon Hooker, making his first NFL start after the Chargers traded away Jacoby Brissett to the Minnesota Vikings, looked everything the part with 220 passing yards and 4TDs on the day.

"The team showed faith in me," Hooker said. "I've been putting in work during my rehab and I'm glad I could help the team today."

During a time when teams with winning records typically acquire talent for the playoff run, the Chargers also traded away starting edge rusher Sam Hubbard earlier in the week as well. Stand-in Joe Tryon-Shoyinka followed Hooker's lead with a sack and a TFL on the day.

"I think we are showing that we had good young players ready to step up," Tryon-Shoyinka said. "I love that they trust us - Now we need to get this team into the playoffs."

The Chargers, now armed with one of the youngest rosters in the NFL to go along with eight additional draft picks in the upcoming draft, also boast one of the league's best records as they head into the 2nd half of the season.

GLENDALE - Rookie Bijan Robinson powered the Baltimore Ravens (6-2) over the hapless Arizona Cardinals 35-21 for the team's sixth consecutive victory.

Robinson, the rookie out of Texas, scored five touchdowns on the day to thrust his name firmly into the rookie of the year conversation.

"It was a great day for our team," Robinson said. "We want to keep this winning streak going.

With six players out due to injury, the Ravens reserves stepped up to keep the team on track as the calendar turns to November. 

Philadelphia Eagles 41

Washington Commanders 24

WASHINGTON D.C. - Patrick Surtain shined on defense as the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Commanders 41-24 to move to 5-3 on the season.  Surtain had two interceptions on quarterback Justin Herbert, including a pick six that put the game out of reach for Washington.

"A little slower start with me getting used to a new system after a couple of years in Green Bay," Surtain said.  "Consider this my coming out party."

The Eagles will look to make it three in a row against the Dallas Cowboys next week.

Carolina Panthers 27

CHARLOTTE - The Houston Texans got back on track with a huge come from behind victory over the Carolina Panthers.  Seemingly trailing the entire game, quarterback Trey Lance hit Deandre Hopkins with less than a minute left give the Texans a much needed victory.

Hopkins, who had 113 yards and two TDs on the day said, "Look what I can do when I play four quarters."

New trade acquisition Derrick Henry also made his presence felt with 117 yards and a touchdown on the day.

Houston will look to keep rolling next week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Minnesota Vikings 20

Green Bay Packers 26

GREEN BAY - After blowing a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter, the Green Bay Packers walked it off in overtime 26-20 against the Minnesota Vikings.  After the Vikings tied it late on a last second touchdown to K.J. Osborn and then won the toss in overtime, things seemed pretty bleak for the Packers.  However, the Green Bay defense got a three and out before turning the ball over to Tua Tagovailoa and the offense.  Tua took things from there and hit Isaiah Hidgins for the touchdown to end it.

"Wasn't going to let this come down to a kick.  We were ending things our way." Tagovailoa said.

The Packers will stay home to take on the visiting Las Vegas Raiders next week.

Cincinnati Bengals 17

San Francisco 49ers 13

SANTA CLARA - The San Francisco 49ers dropped their first game of the season in a matchup of undefeated teams.  In a tough fought and close game, the Niners came up just short 17-13 to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The aggressiveness of coach Kyle Shanahan proved the difference in this one as twice the 49ers went for it on fourth down in field goal range and twice the Bengals defense held.

"I'm not going to change the DNA of this team," Shanahan said.  "It didn't work this time, but it very well could have.  It'd be nice to guarantee we get those, but I can't guarantee anyone will be alive next week."

San Francisco gets some rest next week with a bye.

2023 3GML Season - Week #7

Green Bay Packers 42

Denver Broncos 21

DENVER - The Green Bay Packers defense took a huge step forward in their 42-21 win over the Denver Broncos.  The Packers held the Denver offense to 193 total yards and looked like a brand new unit.  The exclamation point on the day was a pick six by Talanoa Hufanga.

Offensively the Packers were led by the tandem of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and receiver Amon Ra St. Brown who hooked up for three touchdowns on the day.

Green Bay heads home next week to host division rival Minnesota.

San Francisco 49ers 30

Minnesota Vikings 17

MINNEAPOLIS - The San Francisco 49ers stay undefeated moving to 7-0 by beating the Minnesota Vikings 30-17.  The Niners didn't skip a beat with starting quarterback Justin Field out due to a dislocated thumb.  Backup Jordan Love excelled and threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers.

Defensively Levi Wallace and Damone Clark each had two sacks as the San Francisco defense bothered Kirk Cousins all night.

San Francisco will face its toughest test next week as it heads to Cincinnati to take on the also undefeated Bengals.

Miami Dolphins 24

Philadelphia Eagles 27

PHILADELPHIA - The Eagles used a 4th quarter rally to come back and beat the Miami Dolphins 27-24 to potentially save their season.  Now 4-3, the Eagles kept pace in the NFC East.

AJ Brown excelled with 9 catches for 124 yards and had numerous crucial catches on the evening.

Haason Reddick had 2.5 sacks on quarterback Sam Darnold and kept Philadelphia in the game.

The Eagles will take on division rival Washington next week as they look to build some momentum on the season.

Baltimore Ravens 49

Detroit Lions 13

BALTIMORE - The Baltimore Ravens embarrassed the Detroit Lions 49-13 Sunday afternoon behind a stellar performance by Jalen Hurts.  The win was the 5th in a row for Baltimore after starting 0-2 on the season.

Bijan Robinson showed the world why he was the first overall pick by GM TP with multiple electric runs on the day.

Baltimore will look to make it six in row next week as they host the Arizona Cardinals.

San Diego Chargers 27

Kansas City Chiefs 59

KANSAS CITY - While close early, this highly touted matchup quickly turned into a rout with the Kansas City handing the San Diego their first lost in a matchup of unbeaten teams.

"Man, that was a tough one," Quarterback Jacoby Brissett said.  "Tough to be out there today.  Felt like we played 3 games."

Word quickly spread pre-game in the Chiefs locker room that Chargers coach Nick Sirianni had told his team that "We don't respect the Chiefs" in his pregame speech.

When asked if the alleged comment sparked the Chiefs, tight end Travis Kielce smirked and ran off into the tunnel.

Asked about the comment, Sirianni said, "No.  I didn't say that.  I wouldn't say something like.  Maybe in some other universe, but not this one."

Regardless, the Chargers will look to regroup next week at home against the Bears.

LONDON - The red hot Baltimore Ravens (4-2) picked up their 4th consecutive win with a 30-23 victory over the Tennessee Titans in London, England.

QB Jalen Hurts scored three TDs on the day and again led the team to victory.

Safety Jevon Holland and MLB Roquan Smith continued their dominant plan to lead the Ravens defense.

San Diego Chargers 23

Dallas Cowboys 16

SAN DIEGO - After being considered a playoff afterthought by many experts prior to the season, the San Diego Chargers (5-0) remain unbeaten after their 23-16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Rookie DT Calijah Kancey returned to action after a 4-week absence to pick up a 'big man' INT in the 3rd quarter.

K Youngehoe Koo drilled a 56-yard FG late in the 4th to seal the victory despite the falling rain.

The Chargers will now travel to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the also undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.

San Francisco 49ers 27

Cleveland Browns 3

CLEVELAND - The San Francisco 49ers stayed undefeated with an easy 27-3 win over the short-handed Cleveland Browns.

The story of the game was Dalvin Cook who surprisingly popped up on the injury report earlier in the week with a calf strain.  Listed as "out" by the 49ers on the injury report, Cook dressed anyway.  When told league rules prevented him from playing, Cook took a Sharpie to his Jersey and introduced himself as Calvin Dook.  Referees shrugged and let him play.

The 49ers will look to keep their top spot in the NFC next week as they take on the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.

Philadelphia Eagles 10

NEW JERSEY - The Philadelphia Eagles struggled to move the ball against the elite New York Jets defense and fell 20-10.  The loss drops the Eagles to 3-3 on the season.

After the game coach Eric Bieniemy promised changes on offense.

"We'll evaluate everything," Bieniemy said.

The Eagles will look to rebound next week at home against the Dolphins.

New Orleans Saints 35

Houston Texans 27

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans lost for a second straight week to a previously winless opponent, falling this time to the Saints 35-28.

Defensively, the Texans looked sluggish and struggled to stop the Saints offense, giving up over 400 yards of offense.

Houston had a chance to go down and tie the game late, but Trey Lance threw a red zone interception that sealed the Saints win.

The Texans will try to regroup after their bye next week.

PITTSBURGH - Tyler Bass made five field goals, including the game winner with :08 seconds on the clock, to help the Baltimore Ravens (3-2, 2-1 AFC South) pick up their third consecutive win on the season.

TE Mark Andrews was again a threat throughout with 127 yards receiving. QB Jalen Hurts came up clutch when it counted with a critical 3rd down conversion late in the 4th to set up the game-winner from Bass.

Baltimore will now travel to London, England to take on the Tennessee Titans in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Los Angeles Rams 21

LOS ANGELES - Christian McCaffrey ran wild on the Los Angeles Rams helping fuel the Philadelphia Eagles 40-21 victory.  McCaffrey ran for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively the Eagles were helped by a pick six by Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and three pass deflections by Patrick Surtain.

The Eagles (3-2) move into a tie for first place with the Giants after the win and will look to keep rolling next week as they stay on the road to take on the New York Jets.

Green Bay Packers 45

Las Vegas Raiders 24

LAS VEGAS - The Packers (3-2) got back in the win column with a 45-24 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football.  Green Bay was led once again by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa who threw for 303 yards, two touchdowns and rushed for another TD.

However, it was the young rookie Tyler Scott who had everyone buzzing with two kickoff return touchdowns.  One for 101 yards and the other for 99 yards.

"We talked about bouncing back this week and that means everyone on the 53 has a part," Scott said.  "You dream about one, but to get two?...man."

Green Bay could use the positive momentum as they take next week off for their bye.

ATLANTA - The Houston Texans (4-1) ran out of time with the ball in field goal range and an opportunity to have a kick for the win.  On the 44 yard line with 11 seconds left, quarterback Trey Lance hit tight end Maxx Williams for a 4-yard completion on the sideline.  However, Williams was tackled just barely in bounds and Houston, with no timeouts left, couldn't get off another snap.

The Texans were down 10 players due to injury, many on their offensive line and as a result couldn't get things going much of the game.  Lance found himself pressured all day and as a result, Houston found themselves holding their first loss of the season.

The Texans will look to rebound next week against the New Orleans Saints at home.

Dallas Cowboys 9

San Francisco 49ers 23

SANTA CLARA - Dalvin Cook rushed for 143 yards on the ground and added another 42 in the air as the San Francisco 49ers took care of business, beating the Dallas Cowboys 23-9.

There was obvious friction between these two teams and it come to a head with the 49ers kicking a field goal as time expired even though the game was easily in hand for San Francisco.

When asked why, Coach Kyle Shanahan replied, "F___ Dallas."

The 49ers will look to stay unedited next week on the road against the Cleveland Browns.

2023 3GML Season - Week #4

Baltimore Ravens 38

Cleveland Browns 6

CLEVELAND - Facing a backup quarterback, the Baltimore Ravens (2-2) easily took care of the Cleveland Browns 38-6 Sunday.

TE Mark Andrews scored 3 TDs on the day with 169 receiving yards while QB Jalen Hurts threw for over 330 yards with 4 TDs.

Baltimore picked Tyler Huntley off four times on the day.

The Ravens will now travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers in Week 5.

San Diego Chargers 32

Las Vegas Raiders 21

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Chargers (4-0) continued their winning ways with a victory over the Las Vegas Raiders Sunday afternoon, 32-21.

HB Jonathan Taylor finished with 171 rushing yards and a TD.

Defensively, DB Jeremy Chinn scored on an INT while also adding a sack on the day.

The Chargers are now 4-0 to start a season for the first time since 2002. San Diego now heads into their bye week undefeated.

San Francisco 49ers 37

Arizona Cardinals 14

SANTA CLARA - The San Francisco 49ers stayed undefeated in a 37-14 blowout win over the overmatched Arizona Cardinals.

HB Calvin Cook rushed for 122 yards and a TD on 17 carries while also catching five passes for 119 yards and another TD,

Defensively, JC Jackson had two interceptions and looks to be playing well in a scheme that matches his skillset.

Although 4-0, the 49ers are rumored to be looking for some passing game help reaching out to various free agent coordinators.

The Niners host Dallas next week.

Washington Commanders 17

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Eagles lost a second consecutive game after their 2-0 start with a 17-6 defeat at the hands of the Washington Commanders.

The Eagles, playing in yet another poor weather game seem to be stuck in first gear on offense.

"We'd like to open things up a bit," said Coach Eric Bieniemy. "But the weather gods have not been favorable so far this season.

Christian McCaffrey continues to impress, however, with 120 yards receiving in this one.

The Eagles should enjoy better weather next week as they head to LA to take on the Rams.

HOSUTON - The Houston Texans overcame a 21-0 deficit against the Pittsburgh Steelers to win 34-24 Sunday afternoon.

Deebo Samuel was big offensively, catching eight passes for 104 yards and a TD.

Defensively, the Texans got huge interceptions late from L'Jarius Sneed and Trevor Moehrig.

Houston will look to stay undefeated next week in Atlanta against the Falcons.

GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers fell in a tough contest 28-25 to the Detroit Lions.

The Packers defense continues to struggle and is ranked last in the NFL in yards allowed.

Offensively, Tua Tagovailoa was once again a bright spot, throwing for 284 yards and a touchdown, adding another two touchdowns with his feet.

The Packers will look to regroup next Monday night in Las Vegas.
