Packers’ Defense Shines in 13-3 Win Over Lions

DETROIT (AP) — The Green Bay Packers leaned on their defense to take down the Detroit Lions 13-3 on Sunday at Ford Field, inching closer to clinching the NFC North title.

In a game dominated by defensive play, the only touchdown came courtesy of cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who picked off Jared Goff in the second quarter and returned it 69 yards for a score. 

"That’s what we needed today," said Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. "We didn’t have our best stuff offensively, but our defense stepped up in a big way.”

Green Bay (10-3) managed just two field goals on offense, with new kicker Randy Bullock connecting from 30 and 36 yards. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for 145 yards but was unable to find the end zone against a stingy Lions defense.

Detroit (7-6) struggled even more on offense, amassing just 212 total yards.  Jared Goff finished the day with 156 passing yards and an interception, as the Packers' relentless pressure kept him off balance.

"This one’s on me," said Goff. "I’ve got to be better, especially when our defense is giving us chances.”

With the win, Green Bay is now just one victory away from clinching the NFC North title, a feat they could achieve as early as next week. Meanwhile, the Lions’ playoff hopes took a hit as they face a critical stretch in the closing weeks of the season.

Bears Stun 49ers in San Francisco, 27-24

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The Chicago Bears pulled off a shocking upset on Sunday, edging the San Francisco 49ers 27-24 at Levi’s Stadium. A strong performance by 49ers quarterback Jordan Love wasn’t enough to overcome a resilient Bears team that made key plays in crunch time.

Love was sensational for most of the game, throwing for 360 yards and two touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. However, his heroics were overshadowed by a crucial fourth-quarter sack that derailed San Francisco’s final drive and sealed their defeat.

"Jordan played lights out for us," said 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. 

The 49ers (8-5) led 21-20 headed into the fourth quarter. However, Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams responded with a 68-yard drive, capped by a D'Andre Swift touchdown run to put the Bears ahead for good with under two minutes to play.

The loss dents the 49ers’ hopes of securing home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs. Meanwhile, the Bears celebrated a victory in what has been a up and down season, showcasing a glimpse of their potential against one of the league’s top teams.

Chargers Fall to Chiefs, 31-29, as Playoff Hopes Fade

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers let another opportunity slip away on Sunday, falling 31-29 to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. The loss drops the Chargers to 6-7 on the season, pushing their playoff aspirations to the brink.

Los Angeles had a chance to seize control late in the game. Trailing by two, quarterback Will Levis led the Chargers into Kansas City territory in the final minutes. However, a critical sack by Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis derailed the drive, forcing a fourth-and-long situation that the Chargers couldn’t convert.

"We had the chance to win, but we didn’t execute in key moments," said Chargers head coach Bobby Slowik. "It’s frustrating, but we’re not giving up on this season.”

The Chiefs (9-4) all but locked up the AFC West with the win, their dominance in the division continuing. The Chargers, meanwhile, face long odds to make the playoffs. They likely need to win at least three of their final four games and receive help from other results around the league.

"We’ve got to take it one game at a time and control what we can," said Levis. "It’s not over until it’s over.”

With their backs against the wall, the Chargers will look to regroup next week as they try to salvage a season that began with so much promise.

Controversial Call Lifts Dolphins Over Packers in Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins escaped Lambeau Field with a 29-27 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, thanks to a dramatic, last-second defensive pass interference call that left the home crowd stunned.

Green Bay (9-3) appeared to have sealed the win when cornerback Christian Gonzalez intercepted a Hail Mary attempt by Miami quarterback Brock Purdy as time expired. However, the officials flagged Green Bay for defensive pass interference on the play, giving the Dolphins (8-4) one final chance from the Packers’ 1-yard line. Miami kicker Jason Sanders nailed a chip-shot field goal as time expired to complete the stunning finish.

“I’m proud of the way we fought to the end,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said. “Sometimes, you just need one break to go your way.”

The Packers had taken a 27-26 lead with under a minute left on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa to Justin Jefferson, capping off a late-game comeback. Jefferson continued his stellar season, finishing with 73 yards and that touchdown on the day.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur expressed frustration with the late penalty. “It’s tough to swallow. Our guy made a play on the ball. That’s what you teach — to fight to the end. I don’t know what else we’re supposed to do there.”

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Green Bay, who still sits atop the NFC North. Miami, meanwhile, kept pace in a tight AFC playoff picture.

Chargers' Offensive Struggles Continue in Loss to Falcons

ATLANTA (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers’ offense sputtered to one of its worst performances of the season, totaling just 128 yards in a 26-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Los Angeles (6-6) managed only 13 first downs and consistently failed to sustain drives against a stingy Falcons defense. Will Levis struggled under center, completing just 21 passes for 132 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. The running game was equally ineffective, with Christian McCaffrey limited to 54 yards on 14 carries.

“Right now, we’re searching for answers,” said Chargers head coach Bobby Slowik. “We’re running out of time, but I still believe in this group.”

Atlanta controlled the game with a balanced attack, racking up 363 total yards. Bijan Robinson rushed for 84 yards, while Kirk Cousins added 292 yards through the air. The Falcons’ defense also made its mark, sacking Levis six times and forcing two turnovers.

Los Angeles now finds itself in a precarious position in the AFC playoff race, with time running out to salvage a season plagued by offensive inconsistencies.

Injury-Ravaged Texans Struggle in 26-6 Loss to Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Houston Texans’ mounting injuries finally caught up with them Sunday in a 26-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field.

Houston (8-5) was without several key contributors on both sides of the ball, including linebacker Logan Wilson, whose season-ending injury was confirmed earlier in the week. The Texans’ defense, which has been the backbone of their success, struggled to contain Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence, who threw for 200 yards and a touchdown.

The offense wasn’t much better. Forced to line up tight ends at wide receiver due to injuries to their receiving corps, the Texans failed to move the ball consistently. Rookie quarterback Drake Maye was held to 256 passing yards, no touchdowns and an interception, while the running game mustered a mere 41 yards.

“This is the NFL. Nobody feels sorry for you,” said Texans head coach David Shaw. “We have to figure out how to make it work with the guys we have.”

Jacksonville (8-4) capitalized on Houston’s struggles, leaning on Travis Etienne Jr., who rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown, to control the tempo. The Jaguars' defense also had a strong showing, forcing two turnovers and holding the Texans to 3-for-12 on third down conversions.

The Texans will need to regroup quickly as they head into their late bye. The question remains whether their depleted roster can withstand the final stretch of the season.

Josh Allen Dismantles 49ers in 37-24 Bills Victory

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Josh Allen put on a clinic Sunday, torching the San Francisco 49ers for 376 yards and three touchdowns as the Buffalo Bills secured a decisive 37-24 victory at Levi’s Stadium.

Allen spread the ball effectively, carving up the 49ers' defense with precision. Wide receiver Keon Coleman led the charge with nine catches for 156 yards and two touchdowns. 

"Josh was locked in from the start," said Bills head coach Sean McDermott. "He made great decisions and executed exactly how we needed him to.”

The 49ers (8-4) struggled to keep pace, as quarterback Jordan Love endured a rough outing. Love was sacked five times, often holding onto the ball too long, and finished with 209 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. His lone bright spot was a 31-yard touchdown connection with CeeDee Lamb in the third quarter.

"We couldn’t protect Jordan, plain and simple," said 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. "When you're in 3rd-and-long all day, it’s hard to establish anything.”

The loss tightens the NFC West race as the 49ers look to bounce back next week. Meanwhile, the Bills solidified their playoff push with a signature win against one of the NFC’s top teams.

Chargers Snap Losing Streak, Defeat Ravens 35-17 at SoFi Stadium

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers ended a three-game skid with a commanding 35-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at SoFi Stadium. Quarterback Will Levis turned in a stellar performance, throwing for 243 yards and four touchdowns in what many are calling his best outing of the season.

The Chargers (6-5) leaned heavily on their revamped offensive game plan under a newly adjusted coaching staff. Christian McCaffrey was pivotal in the victory, rushing 26 times for 116 yards and adding four catches for 44 yards, including a touchdown. His versatility helped Los Angeles dominate time of possession and keep the Ravens’ defense off balance.

“It feels great to get back in the win column,” Levis said. “The changes we made this week were big, and it showed in how we played. Everyone stepped up, and we played a complete game.”

The Chargers’ defense played a complementary role, limiting the Ravens to 17 points. Despite Lamar Jackson’s efforts, Los Angeles’ defense kept Baltimore’s running game in check.

The game remained close early, but Levis connected with wide receiver Romeo Doubs for a touchdown early in the second half to put the contest out of reach.

The Chargers will look to carry this momentum into next week as they fight to stay in the thick of the AFC playoff race.

Texans Roll Past Titans 47-28 Behind Drake Maye’s Career Day

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans put on an offensive clinic Sunday, dismantling the Tennessee Titans 47-28 at NRG Stadium. Quarterback Drake Maye delivered a performance for the ages, throwing for 375 yards and five touchdowns, as Houston dismantled the Titans in dominant fashion.

Maye spread the ball efficiently, but it was newly acquired wide receiver Kendrick Bourne who stole the spotlight. Bourne, acquired in a midseason trade, hauled in three of Maye’s touchdown passes and racked up 110 yards, providing an instant spark to the Texans’ offense.

“Kendrick’s been a huge addition for us,” Maye said. “He runs great routes, and it feels like he’s been in this system for years. Today, everything clicked.”

The Texans (8-4) scored on their opening drive and never looked back, rolling up 456 yards of total offense. Derrick Henry added 84 rushing yards to complement Houston’s aerial attack, keeping the Titans’ defense on its heels.

Defensively, Houston did enough to keep Tennessee at bay, forcing two turnovers and keeping pressure on quarterback Justin Herbert. The Titans found some rhythm in the second half, but by then, the Texans had built an insurmountable lead.

“We’re starting to play complementary football,” Texans coach David Shaw said. “Drake was exceptional, and the rest of the team followed his lead. We’ve still got work to do, but today was a big step forward.”

Houston will look to build on this momentum as they continue their push toward a playoff spot in the crowded AFC race.

Tua, Jefferson Lead Packers Past 49ers in 3GML Showdown

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — In a clash of 3GML heavyweights, the Green Bay Packers edged the San Francisco 49ers 18-17 on Sunday at Lambeau Field, thanks to a pair of game-changing throws by Tua Tagovailoa and a stellar performance from Justin Jefferson.

The 49ers (8-3) dominated the trenches for much of the afternoon, with rookie defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton wreaking havoc and keeping the Packers’ offense off balance. But Green Bay (9-2) made the most of its limited opportunities. Tagovailoa connected with Jefferson on two pivotal plays: a 40-yard strike late in the third quarter and a 76-yard touchdown bomb with less than a minute to play that sealed the victory.

“Tua made the plays when we needed them,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said. “We struggled all day, but he and Justin showed why they’re elite players.”

Jefferson finished the game with 139 yards and two touchdowns on six catches, proving once again to be the centerpiece of Green Bay’s offensive attack.

Despite their dominance in the trenches, the 49ers’ inability to capitalize on Green Bay’s mistakes proved costly. The Niners front four consistently disrupted the Packers’ backfield, but the offense failed to generate points in crucial moments. Jordan Love threw for 204 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception but couldn't keep the offense on the field long enough to come away with more points.

“We did everything but finish,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said.

The win sets up Green Bay for a potential tie breaker in future playoff seeding as both teams are hunting the number one seed in the NFC.

Chargers Lose Heartbreaker to Bengals in OT, Offensive Overhaul Announced

LOS ANGELES, CA (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers' losing streak hit three games after a crushing 26-20 overtime defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium. The game ended in stunning fashion as Bengals linebackerGermaine Pratt picked off Will Levis and returned it 75 yards for the game-winning touchdown.

It was a microcosm of the Chargers’ struggles, particularly on offense, which once again failed to sustain drives or capitalize on opportunities. Despite a few flashes, including a 67-yard touchdown strike from Levis to AJ Brown, the Chargers couldn’t find consistency.

"We have to be better, plain and simple," said head coach Bobby Slowik. "And that starts with me."

Slowik confirmed that changes are coming, announcing the dismissal of offensive coordinator Brian Griese.

“We appreciate everything Brian’s done, but it’s clear we need a new direction on offense,” said Slowik. “This isn’t about one game—it’s about a trend. We’re going to make wholesale changes to fix this.”

The Bengals were led by Joe Burrow, who threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns. Zack Moss added 72 rushing yards and a score. Despite their struggles on offense, the Chargers’ defense kept the game close, including a late fourth-quarter stand that forced the Bengals to settle for a field goal, sending the game into overtime tied at 20-20.

For the Chargers (5-5), the road forward doesn’t get easier with the Baltimore Ravens visiting on Monday Night Football. 

49ers Dominate Seahawks, Improve to 8-2

SANTA CLARA, CA (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers continued their impressive campaign with a commanding 31-13 victory over the division rival Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium. Rookie running back Jalen Wright had a breakout performance, rushing for 173 yards and a touchdown to lead the offense, while the defense, spearheaded by Arden Key, suffocated Seattle throughout the game.

Wright’s electric 30-yard touchdown run in the second quarter set the tone for a Niners offense that racked up 348 total yards. Quarterback Jordan Love added an efficient 172 yards through the air and two touchdowns passes to tight end David Njoku.

“It all starts up front,” said head coach Kyle Shanahan. “The offensive line was outstanding today, and Jalen [Wright] showed why we have so much faith in him. He’s a special talent.”

On the other side of the ball, San Francisco’s defense put on a clinic. Arden Key was everywhere, racking up 2.5 sacks and eight tackles as part of a relentless pass rush that made life miserable for Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. Smith finished with just 178 yards passing and an interception, as Seattle (4-6) failed to find any offensive rhythm.

“Our defense prides itself on getting after the quarterback and making plays, and that’s what we did,” Key said. “Everybody contributed, and that’s what makes us so dangerous.”

The 49ers (8-2) now sit firmly atop the NFC West and appear poised for a deep postseason run. They’ll look to keep the momentum going next week as they take on 3GML rival Green Bay.

Packers Rally to Defeat Bears on Last-Second Field Goal, 23-20

CHICAGO, IL (AP) — In a tale of two halves, the Green Bay Packers overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to edge the Chicago Bears 23-20 at Soldier Field, thanks to a clutch last-second field goal. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Justin Jefferson led the comeback, propelling Green Bay to a pivotal divisional win.

Trailing 20-10 at halftime, the Packers (8-2) made key adjustments on both sides of the ball. While the Bears (4-6) found success early behind Justin Fields’ dynamic play, Green Bay’s defense pitched a second-half shutout, allowing Tagovailoa and the offense to chip away at the lead.

“We didn’t play our best in the first half, but I’m proud of how we responded,” said Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. “This group doesn’t quit, and tonight was a testament to that.”

Tagovailoa finished with 323 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, bouncing back from a sluggish start to orchestrate two critical scoring drives in the fourth quarter. His favorite target, Justin Jefferson, was unstoppable, hauling in 13 receptions for 121 yards and both of Tagovailoa’s touchdown passes. Jefferson’s second score, a contested 8-yard grab in the back of the end zone, tied the game late in the fourth quarter.

“Justin is as clutch as they come,” Tagovailoa said. “When the game’s on the line, I know where I’m going with the ball.”

The Bears had a chance to reclaim the lead, but a promising drive stalled near midfield. Green Bay then mounted a methodical two-minute drive, setting up Evan McPherson for the game-winning 18-yard field goal as time expired.

“It’s always sweet to come through for the team in a big moment,” McPherson said with a grin.

With the win, Green Bay keeps its grip on the NFC North and will turn its attention to hosting another 8-2 team in San Francisco.

Houston Outlasts Dallas, 34-17, on Monday Night Football

ARLINGTON, TX (AP) — In a Lone Star showdown under the bright lights of Monday Night Football, the Houston Texans (6-4) flexed their firepower, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 34-17 at AT&T Stadium. Rookie quarterback Drake Maye showcased poise beyond his years, carving up the Cowboys' defense all afternoon.

Dallas dialed up relentless pressure, but Maye was unfazed, completing 22 of 31 passes for 329 yards and a touchdown. The Texans’ offensive line stood firm, giving their young signal-caller enough time to exploit mismatches downfield.

“Drake’s ability to stand in the pocket and deliver under pressure was special tonight,” said Texans head coach David Shaw. “He didn’t flinch, and that’s what you want from your quarterback in a big game.”

Running back Derrick Henry complemented Maye’s aerial assault with a bruising performance on the ground. The veteran rumbled for 106 yards and two touchdowns, including a punishing 18-yard run in the second quarter that set the tone for Houston’s offense.

“Derrick brings a physicality that wears teams down,” said Shaw. “When he gets rolling, it opens everything else up.”

On the defensive side, the Texans held strong against Dallas’ high-powered attack. Jimmie Ward delivered the game’s defining moment late in the fourth quarter, intercepting Cooper Rush and returning it 32 yards for a touchdown to seal the victory.

“We knew we needed a big play to close it out,” Ward said. “When the ball came my way, I just thought, ‘This is my moment.’”

The Texans’ victory keeps them in a three-way tie for first place in the AFC South. For the Cowboys, the loss marks a setback in their own playoff push, as they’ve now dropped two of their last three games.

“It’s always good to win in Texas, especially against a team like Dallas,” Henry said with a grin. “This one’s for our fans back home.”

    Rumor on the streets are that the Chargers are going to go the veteran route and not go through the draft again as they did with the Will Levis experiment. Whether that QB is someone with talent but who has been inconsistent like a Justin Fields, or a player who has improved like Sam Darnold is yet to be determined. I think with a very strong WR corps, great RBs, and a solid OL, the team may look to the edge here. While they certainly may consider RT as well, here they go with help opposite Haason Reddick. Herbig has played well in spot duty but he’s not a full time player yet, and Reddick is a speed rusher only so they try to add a different piece to the puzzle here with the power rushing MYkel Williams. Williams was hurt earlier in the year and is a bit more of a projection, but at 6’5 and 265 pounds he gives the team something they don’t have.

    This would be a bit of a shocker considering how much money and assets the Texas have pounded into the defensive line. After using its first two expansion draft picks on edges, the Texans gave up 5 selections to add Micah Parsons to the unit this month. Houston is also loaded at DT with Chrsitian Wilkins and Javon Hargrave tied up long term. That said, Walker is a massive human being and a people mover. If the Texans move on from Hargrave in the future, and/or want to rotate 3DT along with 3DEs for that super six depth approach that GM TH looks to be building - he’d give them a dimension they don’t have. The question would be is it enough to mask their issues at cornerback?

    Three things here. 1. I don’t think Jeanty lasts this long, even if he is an elite football player 2. I doubt that the 49ers take a running back in round one as they are as analytically driven as any team in the league. 3. I’d do this if i were him and the board randomly fell this way. The 49ers have the worst RB room in the league and Jeanty is the type of player that could push them into the top quartile of the league by himself. His power style and one cut ability in that offense is something that would make the 49ers lethal offensively.

26. Green Bay Packers - EDGE Princely Umanmielen, Ole Miss

    The Packers don’t have a ton of needs on their team, if you look at the roster as 

    a whole it’s in very good shape for the long term. Their biggest question mark remains not just the health but the long term ability of its signal caller Tua Tagovailoa. That said, it’s doubtful they take a QB here and instead focus on their need for edge depth. GM SD likes college production and big schools so he goes to the SEC here with Umanmielen who has 24.5 sacks in college and 38 TFL.

Texans Snap Skid in Dominant 37-13 Victory Over Lions, New Defense Shines Under Coordinator Jim Leonhard

HOUSTON, TX (AP) — The Houston Texans put an emphatic end to their recent three-game skid with a decisive 37-13 victory over the Detroit Lions, fueled by an aggressive defensive approach that racked up a staggering 11 sacks. Under new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, Houston’s defense came alive, with recent acquisitions Micah Parsons and Budda Baker proving instrumental in turning up the heat on Lions quarterback Jared Goff.

Parsons, acquired just days before the game, made an immediate impact, posting 3.5 sacks, while the Texans’ relentless pass rush kept Goff off-balance throughout the game. Leonhard, who joined the Texans this week after a long tenure as Wisconsin’s defensive mastermind, didn’t hold back in implementing his strategy, dialing up the pressure with consistent five and six-man blitzes.

“I’ve always believed the NFL should treat five rushers as the default,” Leonhard said after the game. “It puts the offense on its heels and forces them to make quick decisions. Today, we made life tough for their QB, and that’s exactly the point.”

The Texans defense seems to be leaning hard into Leonhard's philosophy.  After the game Parsons could be heard in the locker room emphatically yelling, "If you're not rushing five, you're rushing zero!"

With the Texans’ defense reinvigorated and new additions showing immediate impact, Houston looks poised to be a force in the AFC once again.

49ers Pull Away Late, Roll Past Buccaneers 45-17 in Tampa

Quarterback Jordan Love delivered a stellar performance, throwing for 272 yards and three touchdowns while adding 38 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground. CLEVELAND, OH (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers struggled to gain traction on the road, falling 33-20 to the Cleveland Browns in a game where both teams were led by backup quarterbacks. Despite a steady performance from Jacoby Brissett, the Chargers’ offense was stifled by Cleveland’s defense, held to just 202 total yards and limited success on third downs.

Cleveland’s backup quarterback, Jameis Winston, managed the game effectively, leaning on a balanced run game and quick passes to control the clock and keep the Chargers’ defense at bay. Meanwhile, the Jets took advantage of Houston’s injury-weakened defensive front, relentlessly pounding the ground game behind Breece Hall, who racked up a massive 214 yards and two touchdowns.

Houston’s defense, usually the cornerstone of the team, struggled without key pieces, allowing the Jets to control the clock and tempo. Quarterback Drake Maye faced constant pressure as the Texans failed to find an offensive rhythm, extending their losing streak to three games.

Following the loss, however, Texans fans had reason to celebrate as reports emerged that GM TH had executed blockbuster trades for linebacker Micah Parsons and safety Budda Baker. The trades bring in elite talent and leadership, a much-needed boost to help the Texans recover from their recent slide.

“We’ve been hit hard by injuries, and we needed a spark,” GM TH commented. “Micah and Budda bring that. They’re game-changers, and we’re excited to see the impact they’ll have next week.”
