SAN FRANCISCO - So much for a quarterback competition. The San Francisco 49ers traded quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to the Indianapolis Colts Monday after it was learned Carson Wentz is going to miss five to twelve weeks with a foot injury. San Francisco is paying approximately $17 million of Bridgewater's salary and in return netted a 2022 5th rounder and edge rusher Kemoko Turray.
The story of 49ers camp so far was who would get the starting job between Bridgewater and 1st-round pick Justin Fields. Coach Kyle Shanahan had apparently seen enough this past week and went all in on his rookie. Fields will now head into his first NFL season firmly entrenched as the starter. Former 1st-round pick Jordan Love will now serve as his backup.
